A planned reduction in circulation reduced the Nashua, NH-based cataloger and retailer’s direct sales 6.6% to $12.6 million for the third quarter.

Total sales for the quarter increased 7.4% to $62.9 million, compared to $58.5 million for the third quarter of last year.

Total sales for the first nine months of fiscal 2002 increased 4.2% to $190.7 million, compared to $183.1 million for the first nine months of last year. Direct sales decreased 0.5% to $35.5 million.

Michael Anthony, chairman, president and CEO, noted in a statement that while direct sales did decrease for the quarter, profitability in the direct segment increased “substantially” over the same period in 2001.
