A study titled “Harnessing the Power of Blogs” sponsored by BuzzLogic and conducted by JupiterResearch asserts that blogs have important influence over consumers’ purchasing decisions.
Blogs may have more influence than social networks, according to the study. Their strength is in sparking conversations and helping users to find trusted resources.
JupiterResearch notes that there has been a 300 percent increase in monthly blog growth over the past four years.
Blog readers are also taking advantage of links and multiple blog sources to enhance their information-gathering experience. Almost three-quarters of frequent readers read more than one blog per session.
While about a quarter of blog readers trust the ads they see on the blogs they read, 19 percent of them trust ads on social networking sites.
Ads on blogs have a better chance for precision targeting, and it appears that readers are responding. About 40 percent of blog readers have taken an action because of an ad they saw on a blog, while 50 percent of frequent readers have taken action because of ads they saw on blogs.
Actions resulting from these ads include reading product reviews online, looking for more information on a product or service and visiting a manufacturer or retailer’s site.
“One of the things that’s so great about them is the personal, specific information,” said Valerie Combs, vice president of corporate communications at BuzzLogic.
