Westbury, NY-based 1-800-Flowers.com reported revenues of $157.0 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2005, an increase of 17.1% compared with revenues of $134.1 million in the prior year period.
Online revenues for the quarter ended March 27 increased 23% to $91.6 million, compared with $74.5 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2004. Telephone-generated revenues increased 3.1% to $52.4 million, compared with $50.9 million during the same period last year.
During the quarter, the company’s gross profit margin was 37.6%, compared with 40.8% in the third quarter a year ago. The company attributed this primarily to a combination of product mix and increased promotional discounting during the Valentine’s Day period, as well as increased carrier fuel surcharges and higher shipping costs thanks to the Feb. 14 holiday being on a Monday.
During the third quarter, the company said expanded marketing and selling efforts enabled it to attract approximately 800,000 new customers, an increase of approximately 80,000 over the same period in 2004.
