I love professional American football (Packer, Chief and Steeler fan) and rugby seems like a sport I could really get into. Mind you, I know virtually nothing about it, even though the first date I ever took my wife on was a rugby match. Quite the romantic, hey?
Rugby should be very popular in the U.S. What does the lack of appeal for Americans come down to? It could be the fact that the major draws — football-like scoring and athletic teams smashing into each other hard and fast — simply aren’t being correctly marketed to U.S. audiences. I think many fans would love to get excited about a sport with far fewer prima donnas than football.
I’d love to help market the sport here. And think of what it would do for sales of Lands’ End rugby jerseys.
