SC Johnson Issues Warning of Fake Consumer Rewards Program

SC Johnson, the maker of popular households products as Glade and Windex, warned customers this month about a bank check scam that asks people to reveal personal data to enroll in a fake rewards program.

The company said customers received a letter claiming they had won a prize with a phony check attached to the mailing. The letterhead, which includes a fake signature of SC Johnson’s corporate treasurer, is from Consumer Reward Program, MBT Financial Services or Domino Financial Trust Inc.

The letters tell recipients they have won significantly more (up to 10 times more) than the face value of the check, and ask people to provide their banking information. But SC Johnson said it issued no such letters.

“SC Johnson is in no way affiliated with this activity, and we do not have a consumer rewards program,” the company said in a statement. “Consumers who receive this scam should not provide their bank account information.”

The company would not say how many people received the fraudulent letters or whether any customers offered their bank account details. The firm recommends people notify the police if they received a letter and were asked for financial information.
