Red Robin Renews Kids Gourmet Burger Contest

Red Robin restaurants are challenging kids once again to develop gourmet burger recipes for a chance to have their recipe included in an online cookbook.

Kids aged six to 12 can submit their burger creations to “The Next Gourmet Burger Kids’ Recipe Contest” through Aug. 10 at http://www.redrobin.com or via entry forms at Red Robin locations. The winning burger will be sold at participating Red Robin locations in 2009 and the creator will receive a family vacation to Universal Orlando Resort. A team of judges will select 50 recipes in all to include in a cookbook sold on the site for $5. Sales will benefit the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in 2009, the company said.

Ten semi-finalists will fly to Denver in December to compete in a championship contest where they will make their burger in front of a panel of Red Robin judges and local celebrities. Each will receive a $100 Red Robin gift card and Red Robin iPod as prizes.

This is the third year Red Robin has sponsored the contest.

“The Next Gourmet Burger Kids’ Recipe Contest was specifically designed to encourage families to spend more time together doing something fun, like cooking, and to promote kids getting creative in the kitchen,” Susan Lintonsmith, Red Robin chief marketing officer said, in a statement.

Last year, Joey Yarwick, 12, of San Diego, CA, was the top winner for his “Au Brie Burger al la Francais.” His winning burger featured ground sirloin, Brie cheese, au gratin potatoes, rosemary and salt and pepper. All Red Robin restaurants will serve a burger inspired by Yarwick through Aug. 10. And for every one sold, the company will donate 50 cents to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Online marketing supports the contest.
