Pier 1 Imports Inc. mailed its first ever fall catalog to three million households last week, a move the retailer hopes will help boost sagging sales.
In a statement, Pier 1’s chairman and CEO Marvin J. Girouard said he believes the company “is moving in the right direction” with its fall and holiday season strategy, emphasizing new TV commercials and the catalog in its promotional strategy. The book mailed last week to over three million households; a holiday catalog is set to mail to a broader list in early November.
“We know that customers use catalogs to formulate decorating ideas and to plan social gatherings for special occasions, and believe that catalogs will stay in customers’ homes longer than other print media and direct mail pieces,” Girouard said.
Fort Worth, TX-based Pier 1 reported a net loss of $10.19 million for the second quarter ended Aug. 27.
Total sales declined 3.0% for the second quarter to $438.5 million, compared to $452.3 million in the prior year’s quarter.
