Overall online travel spending is expected to grow in 2006 by 4.8% to %235.2 billion, according to a report released by EMarketer Tuesday.
The growth is fueled mainly by online leisure and unmanaged business travel spending, according to the New York-based researcher. That sector is expected to soar about 20% to $78 billion in 2006 from 2005, while corporate travel will hit $38 billion, according to EMarketer.
Also, while the online travel market’s growth remains healthy, it is slowing, according to EMarketer.
The growth of online leisure and unmanaged business travel spending in 2006 is expected to be 19.7%, compared to 24% in 2005, according to EMarketer. Spending in that sector is expected to hit $122 billion by 2009, according to EMarketer.
EMarketer also predicts overall travel spending will $255.4 billion by 2008, the latest year for which it gave an overall spending figure.
