Massive Ad Campaign Planned to Avoid Internet Government Regulation

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

In a defensive attempt to fend off government regulation of the Internet, a number of prominent direct marketing companies plan to introduce a multi-million dollar advertising campaign to educate consumers about online privacy, according to the Internet Alliance, an Internet trade association.

The campaign, led by the Direct Marketing Association, IBM, Dell and numerous other direct marketing companies and organizations, will integrate TV, radio and print into its $80 million ad blitz, the Internet Alliance said.

The ads are expected to promote the benefits of online data collection of personal information including targeted, relevant advertising.

DMA president H. Robert Weintzen was quoted by the Internet Alliance during a technology summit held in Aspen, CO, this week as saying, “There’s a lack of information and bad information out there.”
