Instagram is announcing a significant milestone today: About two-and-a-half years since its launch in October 2012, the company says it now has more than 100 million people using its photo-sharing app every month. About a month ago, Instagram had announced that it boasted 90 million monthly active users. So much for slowed growth since the kerfuffle about its terms of service.
“It’s easy to see this as an accomplishment for a company, but I think the truth is that it’s an accomplishment for our community,” writes Kevin Systrom, co-founder of the company. “Now, more than ever, people are capturing the world in real-time using Instagram-sharing images from the farthest corners of the globe. What we see as a result is a world more connected and understood through photographs.”
A recent study from Simply Measured found that nearly 6 in 10 of the world’s top brands are active on Instagram. It also found that Lo-fi is the most popular filter for brand photos, followed by Valencia and Rise.
