Social media marketingMerely being on major social media platforms isn’t good enough. Brands and marketers need to push beyond that ordinary landmark and find ways to increase the engagement they get on those channels. Bryden McGrath, a social media strategist at Portent Inc., shares some helpful tips in a post for Social Media Examiner:

  • Facebook: highlight employees, organize gatherings and get fans to participate
  • Twitter: use video messages to connect with users, let people know who’s tweeting, be human and dive into conversations
  • Google+: create and share your circles, be active in relevant Communities, and use Hangouts to connect with people
  • LinkedIn: participate in group discussions
  • Pinterest: invite other users to pin to your boards
  • Foursquare: leave tips at your own locations to show off your personality and leave tips at other local businesses to show authority in your industry
  • Instagram: use hashtags in creative ways

Lori Sullivan, a social media account executive at Intermark Group, reminds businesses that improving social media engagement requires a strategy, an approach that sees social media as a direct link to your customers and a keen understanding of timing.
