AOL’s Advertising.com Hires B2B Marketing Vet as New CMO, Focus on Growing Awareness

AOL Advertising.comAOL’s Advertising.com Group has hired B2B marketing veteran Allie Savarino Kline to be its new chief marketing officer. Kline is departing 33Across, a social media startup where she ran marketing. “Up to now, marketing strategy and campaigns for the ad-tech unit of AOL were handled by a central AOL marketing team,” writes Jason Del Rey at Ad Age. “But the hiring comes as AOL starts to treat its ad-tech business, content business and legacy consumer-product business as three separate entities with their own marketing teams in advance of planned changes to how AOL reports its quarterly financial results.”

Kline will be immediately tasked with gauging how much the advertising market knows about what the Advertising.com Group offers. Its stable of products includes the Ad.com ad network, the Pictela content management system for ad units and its sponsored listings network. “We have a lot more to offer than many may understand or give us credit for,” Kline said.

She will report to Ned Brody, chief executive of the Advertising.com Group.

According to comScore’s Media Metrix numbers from October, AOL Advertising was the No. 3 ad network/buy-side network with a reach of 84.8 percent of the total Internet audience in the U.S., or 186.3 million unique visitors.
