The Mexican brand Tecate is sponsoring an anticipated boxing match in Las Vegas next month on Cinco de Mayo with an integrated program that includes commemorative packaging and a rebate.

A commemorative 24-oz can featuring the image of both fighters will be available and a $20 mail-in rebate offers a discount for the HBO Pay-Per-View event with the purchase of an 12-pack or larger of Tecate.

Thousands of thematic P-O-P elements and posters with fight details will be placed in grocery, convenience and liquor stores. Radio, TV and out-of-home messaging that include details about the fight are just launching in Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington markets.

In some markets— Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Diego—boxing fans will get the chance to meet some of their favorite fighters through exclusive autograph and photo sessions.

The May 2 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena pits champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao against IBO World Junior Welterweight champion Ricky “The Hitman” in a fight for the World Junior Welterweight Championship.

“Cinco de Mayo, one of the most celebrated Mexican holidays in the U.S., has been witness to some of the best boxing matches in recent years,” Carlos Boughton, brand director for Tecate, said in a release. “As an authentic Mexican brand, Tecate is a relevant part of the role that boxing plays in the lives of our consumers who enjoy watching the sport.”

Tecate is a Heineken USA brand.
