Abacus B-to-B Database Grows 25% Abacus’ Business-to-Business Alliance cooperative database has grown 25% over the last year, to 55 million business contacts and 850 million businesses, according to the company. Broomfield, CO-based Abacus is a division of DoubleClick Inc.

“I am very pleased with the growth we are seeing within the Alliance database over the last year,” said Steve Tinlin, Vice President, Business-to-Business, Abacus. “Our success is primarily based on our continued focus on transactional data.”

The company reports that an office supplies cataloger that wanted a source for a large number of new prospect names used the file to identify the best customers for office supplies in the mid to large business-to-business market.

By segmenting the best buyers based on acceptable response rates, Abacus was able to provide B-to-B prospect names for more than 20% of the client’s total prospect list. The remaining prospect names were made up of other rented lists including targeted response lists, subscriber lists and compiled files. Response rates were reportedly increased by 20% to 70% over a five-month period.

A furniture cataloger also used the Abacus file to identify the best upscale furniture buyers by targeting interior decorators and high-end retail consumers with an acceptable return-on-investment. Sales were increased by 62%, and nearly 3,000 new clients were added to the company.
