According to recent figures released by Nielsen Online’s VideoCensus, online video usage grew across the board, with YouTube continuing its dominance in the market.

In March, there were 130.1 million unique online video viewers in the U.S., a 1.9 percent increase from 127.6 million viewers in February. This growth makes up some of the ground lost in February, when the number of unique viewers dropped 5.9 percent from 135.6 million in January.

There were 9.7 billion streams in March, according to Nielsen, reflecting an 8.7 percent jump from 8.9 billion in February. This increase made up some of the 14.9 percent loss in February, from 10.5 billion streams in January.

In March, each viewer averaged 74.4 streams, up 6.7 percent from 69.7 streams in February. Again, this made up for just some of the lost ground in February, when streams per viewer dropped 9.6 percent from 77.1 in January.

Each viewer spent 190.7 minutes watching online videos in March, a 12.6 percent increase from 169.3 minutes in February. This made amends for the 5.2 percent drop in February, from 178.6 minutes in January.

YouTube remained the top online video brand in terms of both total streams and unique viewers in the U.S. Google’s expensive video darling claimed 5.5 billion streams in March, up 6.2 percent from 5.2 billion streams in February, while it drew 89.4 million unique viewers, up 1.4 percent from 88.1 million in the previous month.

Hulu was second with 348.5 million video streams in March, up 12.9 percent from 308.8 million streams in February. It drew 8.9 million viewers during the month, down 6.4 percent from 9.5 million in the prior month.

Yahoo! was third with 231.8 million streams in March and 24.8 million viewers, followed by Fox Interactive Media with 207.5 million streams and 14.7 million viewers.

Nickelodeon Kids and Family Network was fifth with 196.2 million streams during the month and 6.4 million unique viewers, followed by ABC.com with 176.9 million streams and 6.9 million viewers and MSN/Windows Live with 168.9 million streams and 12.1 million viewers.

Turner Sports and Entertainment Digital Network was eighth with 137.6 million streams and 5.8 million viewers in March, MTV Networks Music was ninth with 123.9 million streams and 6.3 million viewers and CNN Digital Network rounded out the top 10 list with 103.5 million streams and 9.0 million viewers.
