XM Kicks Off Ad Campaign Contest

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

XM is tapping into the user-generated craze with a new contest that lets viewers create their own ad for a chance to have it air on Current TV.

The satellite radio company is giving Current TV viewers the chance to fill the role of advertising director by creating a TV spot showing what turns them on about XM. Videos can be submitted to Current.TV/vcam through July 30.

Current TV, which launched in 2005, features programming created by and for consumers 18 to 35. Beyond producing content, viewers vote online to decide what clips should be broadcast.

With XM’s contest, visitors can view video clips and rate them. XM executives will select up to four to run in rotation on Current TV. The winners will receive $1,000 for their creations.

“We’re looking for listeners to tell what XM means to them, whether it’s about their passion for the blues or hardcore Ska, an appreciation for classical music or about their love for Major League Baseball or college sports,” said Sean Connolly, vice president, brand management & media for XM, in a statement. “This is a unique and fun opportunity to be creative Ad Director, and let more than 40 million Current TV viewers know what it is about XM that ‘turns you on.’”

The campaign marks the first time XM and Current TV have teamed up to launch a contest via its video created ad message (V-CAM) program.

Under the V-CAM program, viewers produce commercials for Current TV sponsors for a chance to earn $1,000. If sponsors want to run the spot elsewhere, the creators receive $5,000 to $50,000 depending on where the commercial appears.
