Whataburger Shares Free Food with Online Holiday Coupons

A thank-you couponing campaign by quick-service chain Whataburger will reward holiday shoppers with a dozen online free-food offers by the time Christmas Eve arrives.

Since its launch in late November, customers have been able to sign up for the “12 Days of Whataburger” promotion by volunteering their e-mail address and ZIP code online.

Once in the system, they then receive an online coupon from the San Antonio TX-based chain every other day, each coupon containing a free-food offer on a specific menu item and good only for the day of mailing.

Menu items included in the campaign include fries, drinks, fried pies and the chain’s signature breakfast taquitos. The campaign will build toward an e-mail giveaway on Dec. 24 of a coupon for a free regular Whataburger.

“We’re thankful for our loyal customers and understand how hard they’re working this year to make ends meet,” Whataburger restaurants president and COO Preston Atkinson said in a release. “This is our way of helping them make their money stretch a little further this holiday season.”

Customers who sign up for the 12 Days of Whataburger discounts are advised that they are also signing up to receive future promotional notices from the chain. They can also share the promotion with their friends by submitting e-mail addresses or via a Facebook app or retweeting to the Whataburger Twitter account.

The holiday promotion is part of a larger community-service campaign, “Whataburger Serves,” a long-term initiative of themed activities meant to demonstrate the 700-unit chain’s service orientation. Plans include team-building events for employees, customer appreciation events like this coupon campaign, and programs to support community groups in difficulties.
