Welcome to Moe’s—Now Build Your Lunch

Tex-Mex restaurant chain Moe’s Southwest Grill is offering fans a “Passport to Adventure” sweepstakes game and an online opportunity to hone their burrito-building skills.

Launched on Monday, the sweepstakes will run through Aug. 31 and offers entrants a chance to win “experience” prizes such as a ticket to Lynyrd Sknyrd’s January 2009 “Simple Man” Caribbean cruise, featuring other Southern rock heroes such as Molly Hatchet, .38 Special and the Marshall Tucker Band.

Other sweeps prizes include a VIP ticket to a concert by Southern rockers 3 Doors Down or a vacation package for four to Orlando Resort Theme Parks.

In addition to the sweepstakes prizes, visitors to www.moes.com who register for the contest can get a daily chance at one of several instant-win prizes, including airline vouchers for international or domestic travel and $5 Moe’s gift cards.

They’ll also get the chance to try their hand at putting together virtual burritos for an online crowd, using their keyboard to fill diners’ requests and beat other players’ scores. The game includes a leaderboard that lets users track their progress. If they don’t wish to play, they can click through to reach the instant game immediately.

In-store players can take part in the “Passport” promotion by ordering a Moe’s combo meal or building their own burrito in the restaurants. Every such order gets a stamp in their “Passport to Adventure,” five stamps earns a limited-edition Moe’s vintage T, Fidel hat, or five free music downloads.

The entertainment orientation of the promotion fits the Moe’s brand. The fictitious “Moe” of the chain’s title reportedly stands for “musicians, outlaws and entertainers,” and the chain—based in Atlanta with more than 380 restaurants in 34 states—relies on references to popular culture to communicate with its customers.

“Historically we have been successful in reaching our young-professional and 18-to-24 age group,” Moe’s Marketing Director Sara Riggsby said in a statement, referring to Moe’s two previous online sweepstakes. “However, this time we are taking it a step further by offering prizes linked to a memorable experience for these adventure-seeking young adults.”

The Moe’s Southwest Grill chain is owned by Focus Brands, which also owns the Carvel, Cinnabon and Schlotzky’s franchises.
