WaMu Gets Naming Rights to MSG Theater

Posted on

WaMu has inked a multi-year naming rights deal with Madison Square Garden for its theater.

The name of the venue is being immediately changed to The WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden. The deal marks the first time The Garden has offered naming rights for any of its properties, the companies said.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Under the deal, WaMu gets branded signage inside and outside the theater. All marketing and promotional materials for events will include WaMu branding. And WaMu will place 11 of its ATMs at the site.

The pair make a good fit. WaMu has more than 325 banking centers and about 5,000 employees in the New York area.

WaMu’s 2003 Spotlight on Teachers campaign gave 28,000 tickets to New York area teachers and snagged Promo’s top PRO Award that year.

The company bought out all the tickets on the Great White Way to celebrate its entry into New York City. The campaign won the bank so much attention and goodwill that by the time the final curtain fell, 56% of New Yorkers knew the brand name (up from 18%) and 42% of them liked WaMu’s commitment to community.

WaMu also has naming rights to the WaMu Theater in Seattle, which opened last year.
