Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

StarMedia Network, an Internet content provider that caters to Spanish- and Portuguese-language audiences, has joined with Visa International to promote Visa as the preferred payment method for online commerce done through StarMedia’s shopping areas. StarMedia Network hosts nearly two million e-mail subscribers.

The two companies, along with Visa member banks in Latin America and Puerto Rico, will collaborate on a series of “StarMedia prefers Visa” promotions, including a direct marketing campaign to targeted cardholders. The two companies will also host seminars for merchants to promote the ease and security functions of online shopping.

A study from The Boston Consulting Group forecasts Latin American online retailers as generating $77 million in 1999, a figure that could reach $3.8 billion by 2003.
