Viral Game for ‘10,000 B.C’ Far from Prehistoric

Think you’ve got what it takes to go Pleistocene? Fans of the Warner Bros. movie “10,000 B.C.” can find out how they fare among the hunters and gatherers with a new online viral game timed for the movie’s international release on March 14.

Visitors to http://10000bcgame.warnerbros.com will find a three-level game, “Master Hunter,” that immerses the player in a mammoth hunt similar to one depicted in the film. Users sharpen their spear-throwing accuracy through a target level and then embark on the hunt.

Once players complete all three levels, they can create an account, upload a photo and see themselves depicted as “master hunters.” They can also embed a widget on social profile pages to track their scores on subsequent plays.

A proprietary score-tracking system from game builder AvatarLabs lets players invite friends into their hunter group, update their scores on the game widget, and run competitions within those networks for the award of the “white spear,” the honor given in the movie to the best hunter.

Levels of the game are bracketed with interstitial clips from the film, whose hunting sequences are built on dramatic special effects. The format is designed to make the experience that much more involving for the player while touting the movie’s visual punch.

Open last week in the U.S., “10,000 B.C.” led the American box office tally, grossing more than $35 million and knocking the Will Farrell comedy “Semi Pro” out of the top spot. Encino CA-based AvatarLabs has contributed to the online marketing campaigns of a number of hit films last year, including “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “The Simpsons Movie” and “Ratatouille.”
