USPS Asks Extension for Mailing Online

The U.S. Postal Service asked the Postal Rate Commission last month to endorse a three-year extension of its test phase for Mailing Online, an experimental electronic service for small to medium-sized DMers and nonprofit mailers. The test, which expired in October, had been under way for just over a year in five major East Coast markets: Boston; Hartford, CT; New York; Philadelphia; and Tampa, FL. The service allows mailers to send a prepared document to USPS Web sites, which then print and mail it to a minimum 5,000 names at a cost of 1 cent per page plus postage.
