Tyson Contest Searches for Gold Medal Mom

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Tyson Foods, Inc. has teamed up with Olympic gymnastic champion Mary Lou Retton in a national search to find a woman who best fits the title “Gold Medal Mom.”

The mom can be someone who volunteers or works full time and raises a family or goes above and beyond the call of duty. The contest is part of Tyson’s “Thank You, Mom” marketing campaign, which reminders families to thank their mothers for the simple things they do every day.

Essays and photos or videos can be submitted to www.goldmedalmom.com through March 31. Stories will also be collected at video kiosks at Tyson events, including the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Freestyle World Cup, the USA Gymnastics FlipFest International and the USA Track and Field Millrose Games. Retton will help judge the finalists. Then, Tyson will ask consumers to vote on up to 25 finalists from May 11 to June 11 on the site.

The top winner will receive a trip for two to Beijing, China, to the 2008 Olympic Games. The grand-prize also includes $6,000 spending money and the winner’s face will appear on U.S. Olympic Team packaging. Finalists will receive a $300 gift card to SpaFinder.com.

Tyson is the official chicken, beef and pork sponsor of the 2008 and 2010 U.S. Olympic Teams.

The company is promoting the contest on the GoldMedalMom.com microsite, in prints and on its packaging.
