TV Guide Pushes ABC Line Up with Tissue Packets

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

ABC is giving viewers a special surprise to prepare for its new Sunday-night line-up: Branded tissue packets.

About 150,000 TV Guide subscribers in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago will receive tissue packets polybagged with the Feb. 25 issue of the magazine. The effort is designed to drive tune-in to a new episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” at 8 p.m. ET and “Oprah’s Big Give” at 9 p.m. ET March 2.

It’s part of ABC’s “Feel Good Sunday” programming that will bring tears of joy to viewers’ faces, the company said.

“It’s important for us to engage viewers in a fun and unique way that is directly related to our programming,” said Michael Benson, executive vice president, Marketing, ABC Entertainment, in a statement.

ABC ran a similar promotion last fall attaching branded hospital gowns to TV Guide magazines in New York and Los Angeles to promote “Grey’s Anatomy” (Promo Xtra, Sept. 13, 2007).

In “Oprah’s Big Give” 10 people must find creative ways to change the lives of strangers, by giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars. The limited series runs for eight episodes.
