Toyota Keeps On Trucking With Mobile Hybrid Experience

Posted on

Toyota has been proselytizing for its hybrid cause on a national tour dubbed “Highway to the Future: Mobile Hybrid Experience” with its next stop at a speedway in Indianapolis.

In the midst of an 18-month tour that will take it to 150 events around the country, Toyota is particularly curious to see what kind of traffic it gets for the exhibit outside the famed Indy Brickyard this weekend, where the Allstate 400 will be run on Sunday.

“This model for interacting with the public on site is something we’re exploring as a good way to market,” said Toyota spokesperson Cindy Wright. “It’s a testing and learning opportunity for us.”

Toyota is trying to intercept consumers headed for other events, such as upcoming Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis, WI on Aug. 2-12. Other tour stops include Bethlehem, PA and Des Moines, IA in August.

The tour is intended as a learning opportunity for consumers about hybrid technology and the environment in general, and about Toyota hybrid technology in particular. Visitors to its exhibit in big sky-blue semi offers a chance for a simulated drive in a Toyota Prius. For some events, three Prius vehicles will be on hand for consumers who want to take a ride in one with a Toyota expert on hybrids.

Visitors receive a packet of seeds with a bar code to activate interactive displays in the traveling hybrid exhibit. They accumulate points during their visit, based on the number of displays they hit, scoring points to be redeemed for small gifts, such as Toyota branded flashlights.

The tour started its run in January, and it has plenty more stops ahead over the next several months. Information about the tour schedule is available at Toyota.com/Highway.
