Top Search Terms for September

The latest Hitwise figures concerning the top 10 search terms in 10 categories were released recently. MySpace and PayPal appear to be holding onto their popularity.

“MySpace” raked in a large 8.13% share of total search volume in September, making it the most popular search term for “Net Communities and Chat” and the most popular search term overall. “Myspace.com,” “www.myspace.com,” “craigslist,” and “youtube” filled in the top five in that category. “Facebook” was sixth in the group.

“Paypal” was second overall with a 4.73% share of total search volume in September, and was the most popular term in the “IT and Internet” category. “Paypal.com” and “www.paypal.com” were second and third on the list, respectively.

“Pizza hut” was the most popular search term in the “Food and Beverage Brands and Manufacturers” category with a 2.90% share of total search volume. “Starbucks,” “mcdonalds,” and “dominos pizza” followed, in that order.

Amongst “Automotive Manufacturers” the search term “honda” topped the list with a 2.30% share of total search volume in September. “Toyota,” “nissan,” “ford,” and “dodge” rounded out the top five in that category.

“Cnn” was the most popular search term in the “Broadcast Media” category with an overall share of 2.26%, followed by “fox news,” “cnn.com,” “msnbc,” and “news.” “Vanessa hudgens” was eighth in the category with a share of total September volume of 0.52%.
