Top Search Terms for January 2007

Posted on

Earlier this week, Hitwise released their listing of the top 10 search terms for 10 categories for the month of January 2007.

For ‘IT and Internet,’ "paypal" was first with a 4.52% share of total search volume, while "paypal.com" was second with 1.14%, and "www.paypal.com" was third with 0.76%. "Paypal" held the highest share of search volume overall.

For ‘Automotive Manufacturers,’ "toyota" was first with a 2.39% share, while "honda" followed behind with 2.09%, and "nissan" was third with 1.82%. With the declining popularity of Toyota’s Prius hybrid car, it will be interesting to see if the brand can hold on to this top spot on this list.

For ‘Internet Advertising,’ "free stuff" topped the list with 0.75% of total search volume, while "free samples" was second with 0.66%, and "zappos" was third with 0.61%.

For ‘Pharmaceutical and Medical Products,’ "lexapro" was first with 0.77%, while "chantix" was second with 0.53%, followed by "cymbalta" with 0.50%.

For the ‘Blogs and Personal Web Sites’ category, "xanga" held the top spot with 0.70%, while "myspace" was second with 0.64%, followed by "yahoo 360" with 0.48%. It is surprising to see that "xanga" tops the almighty "myspace" here, though the smaller blog site is continually overlooked in terms of its influence.

"Myspace" was the top search term for 2006.

For ‘Broadcast Media,’ "cnn" was first with a 2.04% share, "msnbc" was second with 0.89%, and "cnn.com" was third with 0.78%.
