The Facebook App Landscape

It seems that Facebook has officially cemented its new interface recently, taking away the little bar at the top introducing the new look to users and asking them for feedback.

It was fairly certain that the new appearance would mean some sort of trouble for those wildly popular applications, and now that a few months have passed it seems like a good time to see how things have changed.

Back in late June, Slide’s FunWall sat atop the list of applications in terms of daily active users. The application boasted 1.6 million users at the time.

As of Monday, the application (now dubbed Slide FunSpace) was third on the list with 863,014 active users, according to Adonomics.

RockYou’s Super Wall was second in June with 1.5 million users, but now holds the top spot with 1.2 million active users.

Slide’s Top Friends was third on the list in June with 1.2 million users, but now sits in second place with 969,775 active users.

Bumper Sticker was fourth in June with 1.1 million users, but is still fourth, but with 856,057 active users.

Owned, the brainchild of MyYearbook, was fifth in June, but now ranks 15th with 399,160 active users. Serious Business’ Friends for Sale application was sixth, but is now 13th with 443,690 active daily users.

Texas HoldEm Poker and Are YOU Interested? held relatively steady, while (Lil) Green Patch jumped up the list to take the fifth spot with 800,991 active daily users.

Scrabulous, however, has been killed off.

So, the top 10 rankings have remained somewhat intact, though the specific placements on the list have obviously changed. The most noteworthy trend is that the number of daily active users appears to be more spread out amongst all the applications.

In June, the top four applications had a disproportionate number of users, while the remaining six in the top 10 had user counts that dropped off steeply.

There is much more equality now, with each application only having slightly more than the one below it.
