Taco Bell Ties Free Tacos to World Series

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Taco Bell is dangling free tacos tonight for consumers, with rewards tied to home runs in Game 3 of the 2006 World Series.

Taco Bell, the official QSR of Major League Baseball, will hand out free seasoned beef crunchy tacos to any consumer if any Detroit Tigers or St. Louis Cardinals player hits a home run over left or left center field during the game. Consumers can request the tacos between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at participating Taco Bell restaurants.

Over the past three World Series, players have hit 23 home runs, eight of which were left or left center, the company said. Taco Bell is modified its tagline “think outside the bun” for the promotion to “think outside the park.”

“We can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate America’s favorite pastime than by giving fans a chance of winning America’s favorite taco,” said Bill Pearce, CMO, Taco Bell Corp. in a statement. “Since we haven’t given away a free taco in previous World Series promotions, we felt this was the perfect time to ‘think outside the bun’ and open up the offer to include any home run over left or left center field.”

Taco Bell is supporting the promotion with a media tour with baseball legend Carlton Fisk, a former Red Sox player who struck one of the most famous home runs in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. P.r., print ads in USA Today and online materials at QA.TacoBell.com/freetaco also support. Millsport, Stamford, CT, helped develop the concept and handles on-site activation.
