Taco Bell Launches Online Food Sightings Museum

Whether its pizza, toast or corn chips, a growing number of consumers are reporting seeing images in their food. And to pay homage to this new phenomenon, Taco Bell has launched a home for these edible “visions” via the first online Food Sightings Museum at Tacobell.com.

The QSR launched the site after consumers reported seeing images in their Chalupa shells—everything from Star Wars’ Chewbacca and E.T to a butterfly and even the Liberty Bell. Taco Bell is asking consumers to take a quick glance before they bite into their food.

Through June 16, Taco Bell invites consumers to submit their own food vision photos online. Photos may be taken of any edible item bearing an image. Consumers who log on to the site can vote whether the images are authentic or just a meal—unrecognizable images or altered.

As an added incentive, consumers who send submissions of Club Chalupa shell images can win a one-month supply of Taco Bell Chalupas as part of the Taco Bell Food Sightings Photo Contest. Consumers can vote online for their favorite shell June 10 to June 16. The Club Chalupa shell entry earning the most votes will be declared the winner.

Taco Bell launched the online museum last month to give consumers a fun way to engage with the brand and, in part, to promote its Club Chalupa item, which is available at participating restaurants for a limited time for $1.99.

“People are finding visions in many things,” said Taco Bell spokesperson Laurie Schalow. “A customer a few years ago said he found Jesus in his Chalpua. We’re playing off the phenomenon. We hope we get a lot of fun submissions.”

The contest is open to consumers 18 and runs through June 16. Internet materials support.
