Starz Pushes “Space Chimps’ with 100 Million Dole Stickers

Dole Food Co. is teaming up with Starz Media LLC to promote the upcoming animated film “Space Chimps.”

Under the deal, Dole will place 100 million “Space Chimps”-themed stickers on its bananas and play up the movie on salads and fresh pineapples. An FSI and retailer advertising circulars and displays will also support the tie-in.

Dole’s Web site for kids, called SuperKids at Dole5ADay.com, will promote “Space Chimps,” which 20th Century Fox will release in 2008. The site includes health and nutrition information available to children and schools nationwide.

“We are developing a comprehensive promotional campaign for Space Chimps, in association with the licensing and merchandising efforts Fox Licensing is spearheading, and having Dole as an anchor partner, whose food products are such a natural fit with the movie, will certainly help,” said Amorette Jones, executive vice president for worldwide marketing at Starz Media, in a statement.

Starz Media is producing the film with Vanguard Animation and Film.

“Space Chimps” follows the antics of astronaut chimpanzees on a mission in space. Ham III is lured into a program with two highly trained chimps for a dangerous mission that leads them to an unknown planet. While stranded, the group helps the inhabitants get rid of a tyrannical leader and find their way back to Earth.
