Sportsman’s Guide in E-Commerce Agreement with NAOG

The Sportsman’s Guide, South St. Paul, MN, has entered into an agreement with North American Outdoor Group (NAOG) to develop, build, maintain and support e-commerce storefronts on a number of Web sites operated by the affinity group direct marketer.

The Sportsman’s Guide will be responsible for providing e-commerce services for NAOG’s fishing and hunting club sites, http://www.fishingclub.com and http://www.huntingclub.com, including merchandising, warehousing, distribution and fulfillment. The Sportsman’s Guide will pay NAOG a percentage of the sales generated through the sites developed as a result of the agreement.

NAOG, Minnetonka, MN, currently serves 3.6 million members with a variety of special interest clubs and Web sites, including the North American Fishing Club and the North American Hunting Club.

In addition to providing e-commerce services for NAOG, The Sportsman’s Guide will purchase resource information and content from NAOG for the its new subsidiary GuideOutdoors.com, its soon-to-be-launched portal for outdoor enthusiasts.

In other news, The Sportsman’s Guide has reported third quarter sales for the weeks ended Oct. 3, were a record $34.7 million, a nearly 14% increase over the $30.4 million reported for the same period one year ago.

Internet sales, which the company defines as sales that are derived from the its web site, http://www.sportsmansguide.com, and catalog orders that are processed online, were nearly 10% of total sales for the quarter ended Oct. 3. Internet sales were less than 1% of total sales for the third quarter of 1998.
