Solo, Apple & Eve Team with Sesame Workshop

Solo Cup Co. has signed licensing deal with Sesame Workshop to launch a line of paper plates, bowls and cups for kids.

The products, which will hit stores in May, will feature “Sesame Street” designs from top characters, including Elmo, Cookie Monster and Big Bird.

The effort marks the first licensing deal Solo Cup Co. has signed with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind “Sesame Street.” Solo said the products would help the company grow its disposable plates and cups in the children’s segment.

A national cents-off FSI, interactive Web site, in-store displays, shelf signs and print ads will support the rollout.

In a separate deal, Apple & Eve has expanded its “Sesame Street” line of juice boxes with the Sesame Street Organics 100% Fruit Juice Boxes. The new line will be available in three flavors: Big Bird’s Apple, Elmo’s Punch and Ernie’s Berry.

Sesame Street Organics will feature the characters as farmers on the product packaging. The juice boxes will be sold in four packs for $1.69 and 36 counts in club stores for $10.99.
