Short-term Outlook Not Good for Catalogers: Libey-Concordia

An economic recovery will not likely be seen for catalog marketers until late 2003 or 2004.

The escalating psychology of terror, downtrodden economy and the exposure of corporate financial greed are among a number of influences that have had a sobering, if not devastating, influence on the board U.S. economy, editor Donald R. Libey states in his most recent economic outlook report.

“We continue to be very concerned about the effects of the stock market values and the psychological effect on the consumer and the institutional investor,” he states.

When looking across the national at economic conditions and mailing recommendations most U.S. states remain “normal.” The indicators are used to assist in optimizing list rental and circulation plans nationwide. Twenty states indicate an “increase” including California, Oregon, Utah, Kansas and New Mexico.
