dELiA*s Inc., New York, a marketer to Generation Y, has appointed R. James Cooper, 47, to the position of chief financial officer. Cooper most recently worked as executive vice president and CFO of Coach Leatherware, a division of Sara Lee Corp.

Stephen King is offering his latest work for distribution exclusively on the Internet. “Riding the Bullet,” a 66-page tale that King describes as “a ghost story in the grand manner,” will be available Tuesday as an “e-book,” which buyers can download for $2.50 and read on a computer, personal organizer or dedicated e-book device. The short story, a co-publication of Scribner and King’s Philtrum Press, will be electronically published through Simon & Schuster Online, which will make it available through Web sites of e-book manufacturers and online booksellers.

PackagingInsider.com, an online trading community for the packaging industry, has named Patricia A. Smith vice president of marketing. Smith will create and direct marketing strategies and campaigns to promote the PackagingInsider.com Web site for the packaging community.

Student Advantage Inc., a provider of online and offline services for college students, universities and businesses targeting the student market, has appointed Frederick A. Rogers vice president of university strategy and partnerships. His primary responsibilities include expanding Student Advantage’s business-to-business services for the higher education market by deepening current university relationships and identifying new university services.

FortuneCity.com Inc., an Internet media company and network of Internet personal publishing, content and entertainment sites, has launched Flynote.com, an online digital music catalog and storage site. Flynote offers visitors the option of playing, downloading songs, organizing and storing music into a private “Song Bin” maintained in the Flynote music library.

Karl Schumacher has been named President of docSense.com, a new stand-alone business of Pitney Bowes Inc. docSense.com offers professional services and software systems for Internet billing, payment and statement applications for the business-to-consumer, business-to-business and internal messaging markets.
