Shared Technologies Cellular (STC) Inc., Wethersfield, CT, is offering its prepaid phone customers membership in Club Connect, a new loyalty marketing effort. Initial tests conducted in May have resulted in sign-up rates between 50% and 60%.

The company plans to roll out the program to all 400,000 active and inactive customer that have purchased a prepaid phone for it.

The program has two levels: For $9.95 per month, Club Connect Silver offers guaranteed connectivity, even if customers exceed the number of minutes they had purchased. Customers also can purchase airtime minutes at STC’s lowest rate.

Club Connect Gold members pay $19.95 per month, and receive all of the above benefits as well as 30 free minutes and 50% off accessories.

STC launched the program when its test marketing efforts showed that convenience and accessibility of minutes had a significant impact on customer retention rates. The company plans to roll out the program to all of its offerings, which include paging, long distance, local phone access and Internet access.
