Schwan’s Launches Loyalty Program

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

The Schwan Food Company, Marshall, MN, begins its first long-term, loyalty-based program with the Home & Gifts Store. Through the store, customers can redeem points acquired with online or phone purchases to receive discounts on premium appliances and cookware. This is the first Schwan’s loyalty program available to all customers.

Schwan’s Home Service consumers will receive one point for each dollar they spend at www.schwans.com or 888-SCHWANS. A tab on the Web site directs consumers to the available gifts. Additional gifts will be available on Feb. 1.

To celebrate the grand opening of the store, Schwan’s will award customers two points for every dollar they spend from now until Jan. 31.They may redeem their points for discounts on a selection of more than 100 brand-name items for the home, including a Hamilton Beach food processor, a Chef’s Mark cookware set and a West Bend electric stand mixer. Customers can purchase items offered by the store beginning on Feb. 1 and have them shipped anywhere in the continental U.S.

“We will be doing ongoing reinforcement of this program by releasing a new catalog every four weeks, through ongoing e-mail communication and some online advertising,” said Glenn Badger, director of e-commerce and emerging channels for Schwan’s Home Service. “Our catalog features an insert that announces the program and doesn’t list all the merchandise, rather it instructs consumers to go online or call for more merchandise.”

To date 10,000 additional merchandise catalogs have been requested.

“There has been a lot of initial interest,” Badger said. “We’ll be doing a lot of extension for the program over the year–bringing in new items and offering different ways of getting points including an instant-win decoder game.”
