Scholastic Media has teamed up with the J.M. Smucker Co, to launch an essay contest offering the chance to win books for home and school.

Visitors to www.smuckers.com or www.jif.com can enter the “Feed Your Need to Read” Contest” through Nov. 30 by submitting a 200-word essay describing why they want to feed their family’s need to read. The top winner will receive $3,000 worth of books from Scholastic each for their home and for their school.

The campaign includes a cause-marketing component. In addition to the contest, Smucker’s will donate five cents from every Smucker’s Fruit Spread or Jif Peanut Butter product purchase during September to the Boy’s & Girls Clubs of America, for a total donation of up to $50,000.

The promotion also features a gift with purchase offer. Shoppers can send away for a set of three children’s recipe books with two proofs of purchase of Smucker’s and Jif products and shipping and handling

Smucker’s and Scholastic promoted this contest and partnership through an FSI in a national newspaper dropping to 56 million households. Online marketing also supports the promotion, which Momentum Worldwide handles.
