Sales Slow Following Catalog Circulation Decrease at Harry & David

Harry & David Holdings Inc. reported $27.8 million in direct marketing sales for the first quarter of the 2007 fiscal year that ended Sept. 30.

This year’s first quarter includes 14 weeks. With the extra week sales were up 6.5% compared to the 13-week first quarter sales for the prior year. When figures from the 14th week are excluded sales were flat compared to first quarter of the previous year.

Direct marketing sales include catalog, Internet, business-to-business and outbound telemarketing orders. The Harry & David latest figures reflect a 7.5% decrease in Harry & David catalog circulation.

Net sales for the company’s Jackson & Perkins division decreased 35% to $3.7 million in the first quarter of 2007, compared to the same period last year, due partly to a 29% decrease in catalog circulation.
