Westin Hotels’ new catalog is a sleeper

THE OLD SAYING HOLDS TRUE: You can’t take it with you.

But you can have it shipped.

For guests who fall in love with its in-room bedding, Westin Hotels will be issuing the second edition of its Heavenly Bed catalog. While the first run was distributed exclusively in the chain’s hotel rooms, this year’s plans call for a mail campaign as well.

Over a four-month period ending last January, Westin, which is part of White Plains, NY-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., had distributed 75,000 books, primarily in rooms throughout its United States properties. The firm plans to double that number this year.

And starting in June, the chain will launch a 75,000-name mailing. Recipients will include guests of the parent company’s resort hotels, members of the Starwood Preferred loyalty program, female business travelers from internal and external lists, and names generated from travel publications.

While women tend to be more responsive to the catalog, men appreciate the product as well.
