O Say Can You See: Jeep Partners With National Anthem Project

Jeep has signed on as the national presenting sponsor of an initiative to teach Americans the oft-forgotten words and significance of The Star-Spangled Banner.

The National Anthem Project: Restoring America’s Voice is a three-year national education initiative created by MENC: National Association for Music Education after a Harris Poll indicated that two out of three Americans don’t know the words to The Star-Spangled Banner.

The tour includes education in schools across the country, special performances and alliances with professional sporting events and a 40-city mobile marketing tour stopping in cities to be determined.

On the tour, Jeep vehicles will be on display as well as a retrospective on the brand’s role in U.S. history. The project will be promoted at Jeep.com, and other promotional opportunities, such as dealer involvement and advertising, are still being defined, Jeep spokesperson Jodi Tinson said.

First Lady Laura Bush serves as honorary chairperson of the initiative, which launches today on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol with live performances by hundreds of children, the Oak Ridge Boys and the U.S. Marine Band dubbed the World’s Largest Concert.

Across the country the event is expected to be viewed by more than six million children, teachers and music supporters airing live on PBS and the Armed Forces Network at 1 p.m.
