NY State Passes Online Consumer Protection Law

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

New York State has passed a bill ensuring that consumers are protected when making online purchases.

The measure provides that:

*Orders cannot be accepted for goods or services a merchant cannot guarantee to be shipped within 30 days.

* Advertising and promotional materials must prominently feature: the legal name of the company, complete street address and details about refund conditions.

* If companies fail to deliver products in 30 days, they must clearly provide buyers with the opportunity to cancel orders and receive a refund or receive substitute merchandise.

* Companies must keep records of all complaints of failure to ship merchandise or provide advertised services.
