NHL Boosts Salvation Army Campaign Online
The National Hockey League is creating an online campaign to support the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas fundraising with an NHL All-Star prize tie-in.
NHL fans will be able to contribute to the Salvation Army by creating their own personal online red kettles, with a tie to their favorite NHL team, online. The virtual kettles are intended to mirror the traditional ones manned by Salvation Army volunteers on street corners during the holiday season.
The individual with the kettle that drums up the most financial support will win a trip to the NHL All-Star Game Weekend in Montreal on Jan. 23-25, including two tickets to the game and to the NHL SuperSkills Competition that precedes it, along with passes to pre- and post-game receptions.
“We think it’s a good way to enhance the NHL’s slice of the broader Salvation Army campaign,” said NHL spokesman Mike DiLorenzo.
Individuals, businesses or organizations can create their own red kettles on the site to help raise funds, which will stay in the communities where they’re raised.
The Salvation Army is an evangelical arm of the universal Christian church, which offers assistance to nearly 29 million Americans in need each year.
