Newcastle Import to Bring Some Yanks to Britain

Newcastle Brown Ale, which leads the imported ale category in the U.S., wants to bring four lucky colonists back to the home country for some rock and roll next year.

Newcastle has launched an in-store sweepstakes to give four Americans travel and accommodation at Britain’s 2009 Glastonbury Music Festival, to take place outdoors June 26-29 in Pilton, Leicestershire, U.K.

Until Nov. 15, fans can enter the contest using an entry form available at retail stores that sell Newcastle Brown Ale. Four randomly chosen winners will receive airfare, lodging, festival tickets and spending money for themselves and a guest. Ten runners-up will win their choice of electric or acoustic guitar from Michael Kelly Guitars, customized for the Newcastle contest.

Glastonbury, which bills itself as “the largest field music and performing arts festival in the world,” is known for bills that appeal to a wide range of musical tastes on multiple stages. Last year’s headliners included Jay-Z, The Wailers, James Blunt and Coldplay.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer music fans the chance to attend the ultimate music festival on behalf of their favorite imported ale,” Newcastle Consumer Marketing Director Steve Greig said in a statement. “The opportunity to align our brand with one of the most renowned music festivals in the world is quite beneficial to both the brand and consumers.”

Newcastle Brown Ale is produced by Scottish & Newcastle PLC and imported into the U.S. by a wholly owned subsidiary, Scottish & Newcastle Importers.
