New Company Promotes Interactive Multimedia Gift Card

OptiCom Marketing Group Ltd. and One28 Marketing Group LLC have formed a new company, OptiCom MoxyCard InterACTIVE to pitch its new multimedia gift card.

The company will specialize in offering branded content within the retail, entertainment, sports, media and consumer packaged goods segments through its MoxyCard, a patented interactive multimedia CD gift card that was first introduced in August 2004.

Peter Osicka, formerly the president and creative director of Oakville, Ontario-based OptiCom Marketing Group, selling MoxyCard in Canada, has been named president of OptiCom MoxyCard InterACTIVE

In addition to Osicka, heading the company’s sales and marketing efforts is Michael Feraday, previously VP-marketing at Irwin Toy, a toy manufacturer in Ontario. Mike Griffin, the president of One28Marketing, the Tampa, FL-based agency selling MoxyCard in the U.S. is the new president and CEO of the recently formed MoxyCard International Inc., the parent of OptiCom MoxyCard InterACTIVE, focusing on positioning the company for continued growth in North America as well as internationally.

The credit card-sized MoxyCard fits into a standard CD tray and can carry video and music content, as well as links to Web sites. A magnetic stripe on the front carries retailers’ standard gift-card data, either UPC bar codes, scratch-off PIN codes or serial numbers. The card can carry infomercials, printable coupons, movie trailers and videogame or music CD samples. Marketers can use Web links to field promotional offers online (and collect e-mail addresses from participants).

“It’s dual purpose,” Griffin said. “It functions just like a regular gift card plus it works just like a CD, because that’s what it is, two products merged together.”

The company has been in discussions with a number of the country’s top retailers and the product is likely to be seen at a major retailer before the end of the year, he said.

MoxyCard also can print a different name or greeting on the front of each card “for a personalized touch.”
