NBA Promotes Tatum, Behrens to EVP

The National Basketball Association has promoted Mark Tatum to executive vice president, marketing partnerships and Kathy Behrens to executive vice president, social responsibility and player programs.

Tatum was most recently senior vice president, marketing partnerships overseeing marketing partnerships and media groups, managing blue chip marketing partners for the NBA, WNBA and NBA Development League. Tatum develops integrated marketing relationships with brands across all NBA properties and manages sales relationships with the league’s national TV partners.

He is also credited with driving the league’s international business development initiatives. Emilio Collins now directly oversees that aspect of the league’s business as senior vice president of international development.

Tatum joined the NBA in 1999. He previously worked for Major League Baseball in its corporate sponsorship and marketing department.

Behrens, who has been working as senior vice president, community and player programs, oversees public service initiatives and community outreach. Behrens played a crucial role in developing NBA Cares, the league’s global outreach initiative.

Behrens joined the NBA in 2000. Prior to her tenure with the league, she was executive director of New York Cares, a non-profit organization that mobilizes volunteers to help New York City’s needy residents.

In a statement about both promotions, NBA Commissioner David Stern said Behrens and Tatum had “contributed greatly” to the NBA’s efforts to impact communities globally and to fuel the worldwide growth of basketball.
