NASCAR Star To Handle Indianapolis Arby’s Drive-Thru

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

When Arby’s customers in Indianapolis drive to their favorite location today, the guy working the drive-through window could be NASCAR star Matt Kenseth.

Arby’s has been touting Kenseth’s July 26 appearance at one of its 3,600 restaurants around the country to promote its new Popcorn Chicken Shakers. All Arby’s locations will be giving out free samples of the bite-sized breaded chicken bits today, with or without Kenseth.

On the eve of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard race on Sunday, the suspense about where Kenseth would appear narrowed to Arby’s locations near the Indy racetrack.

Arby’s wanted to devise a promotion that would be “more experiential for customers,” company spokesman Toby Nelson said

Kenseth’s picture will adorn P-O-P displays plugging the Popcorn Chicken Shakers, he said.

This could be the first of several Kenseth cameos for Arby’s, which is mulling other events to stage as his primary sponsor through the current NASCAR season.

“If this is successful, the possibilities are open for us in the future,” Nelson said.

The restaurant chain has created a tie-in with Kenseth for its decade-long support of Big Brothers Big Sisters. When Kenseth wins a race—as he did on circuits in Texas and California earlier this year—Arby’s makes donations to the nearest Big Brother Big Sister location.

While Kenseth gives out popcorn chicken, Arby’s Charity Tour bus also will be on hand in Indianapolis giving customers information on youth mentoring through Big Brothers Big Sisters.
