Mpire Looks to Enhance Online Shopping Experience

Posted on

Mpire.com is being spearheaded by CEO Matt Hulett, the former president of Expedia. The new online shopping site allows users to search for items on eBay, Yahoo!, Overstock, and Craigslist all on one site. Search results can be filtered by price, shipping costs, number of bids, time left to make the purchase, location, and vendor.

The major advantages of using Mpire include the ability to see the average sale price of a particular item, as well as a historical pricing trend all on a neat, Ajax-based interface. When a user types in a product that they are searching for, Mpire will offer some suggestions based on popular product searches. Users can also choose to exclude words from their searches.

Allen Weiner, an analyst at Gartner, says “Consumers want to have as much information as possible to make informed decisions. This brings all those dimensions together. That’s something that’s been lacking.”

A key aspect of Mpire’s business is a partnership with online auction giant eBay, who agreed to provide Mpire with data to help their analytics. The site will look to make money by selling priority listings in its product search results and by working with affiliated markets that will be featured on the site.
