Blockbuster Inc. has a new line of occasion-themed giftcards for companies to reward employees and customers.
The cards can be customized with three messages: Congratulations!, Thank You and Happy Birthday, available in reloadable denominations of $5, $10, $25 and $50.
With the occasion-themed cards, Blockbuster hoped to move beyond consumers thinking of the cards as just another commodity.
“We wanted to give folks more of a selection for what they were trying to accomplish,” said Ross Sawai, sales director, partnership marketing group, at Blockbuster. “We felt like the three areas that were significant to employee recognition and employee incentives were thank you, congratulations and everybody has a birthday.”
Recipients can use the cards to rent movies and games or to buy snacks.
The cards are debuting at the Motivation Show this month in Chicago and will be supported by print ads, e-communications and direct marketing for the holidays. Companies can order the cards in quantities of 25 either online at http://www.blockbustersolutions.com or by phone at 800-475-4784.
Last May, Blockbuster unveiled its new Night Card, good for two DVD or VHS movie rentals, two 20-oz. Coke products and a tub of microwave popcorn. The provider of in-home movie and game entertainment also offers the Entertainment Card, good for any movie or game rental; the Movie Card, good for any movie rental and the GiftCard, good for movie and game rentals or purchases of snacks.
