Mobility Scooters: The Latest Avis Incentive

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Avis Rent A Car System, LLC, hopes to attract older travelers or those with disabilities by offering a mobility scooter for rent with a vehicle rental. The scooter can be delivered to a particular location.

The pilot program rolled out last week in two top leisure and convention destinations, Las Vegas and Orlando, FL.

The scooters, which are most popular with older travelers and those with disabilities, are the latest addition to Avis Access, the company’s products for travelers with disabilities. Avis Access launched in 2003 as the nation’s first comprehensive program for travelers with disabilities. Other components of Avis Access are transfer boards, hand controls, spinner knobs, panoramic mirrors and swivel seats.

“Many people need to use mobility scooters in their everyday activities,” said Scott Deaver, executive VP-marketing, Avis, in a statement. “By offering them a fast and easy way to get them when they are traveling, we’re able to enhance their whole travel experience. This new service reinforces our commitment to help make travel more accessible for everyone.”

Customers will be able to reserve a scooter when making a vehicle reservation online at Scootaround.com. There is an additional charge of $40.00 per rental day in Las Vegas and $50.00 per rental day in Orlando with multiple day discounts available.

The new program was developed with the assistance of Scootaround, Inc. of Winnipeg, Canada, which supplies mobility equipment for sale and rental nationwide.

Parsippany, NJ-based Avis and its subsidiaries operate 2,000 locations worldwide and are part of Avis Budget Car Rental, LLC. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cendant Corp., a global provider of services within the real estate and travel sectors.
